It's a little Jurassic

My best friend, Penny, is a smart girl. Knowing how crazy the wedding season can be, she called me long before her son Ben's birthday the end of July to confirm that the party theme for his 2nd birthday would be dinosaurs. I go a little crazy with the cake when it's for family (we've been best friends for 20 years, she's family to me). I have been wanting to play with pvc piping and cake for some time now and this was the perfect opportunity. Here's a look at Ben's gigantic dinosaur cake!

Here are a few shots of the work in progress:

(Below) The pvc structure is covered in rice cereal treats.

The cake is added to the body. Note the size of the wine glass in comparison... this was a monstrous cake. The cake board is 2 feet by 2 feet. I'm not sure what time it was (late) but if I'm working after 10pm, the wine comes out.

Covered in fondant and ready for the airbrush (about 2am at this time... and the wine is gone.. which made for an interesting airbrush clean up the next day!).

After the paint job. This was a little tricky to get out of the cake cave and into the van!

The head fell off about 2 hours into the party... probably didn't let it dry long enough, or it was too hot and humid to survive, or a combination of both... always learning!
